community resilience

Join us and leverage your curiosity and compassion to create systemic change.

Help us continue supporting local leaders in creating a more just and sustainable world, in places where the stakes are highest.

From climate disasters to oppression and violent conflicts—combatting the most pressing issues of today can seem overwhelming. At the Center for Environmental Peacebuilding, our mission is to identify community champions and enable them to effect structural change.

CEPB at COP26

7 team members, 15 days, 39,509 participants.

The Center for Environmental Peacebuilding was thrilled to send 7 team members to attend COP26—the 26th United Nations Conference of Parties. A space to meet with world leaders in politics, business, and global climate activism, COP26 offered our team the opportunity to forge new partnerships, strengthen existing knowledge, and identify gaps in capacity in the most at-risk regions of the world.

Over 15 days, our team members heard from former US President Barack Obama; First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon; Prince William, Duke of Cambridge; and Ceará State Secretariat, Célio Fernando Bezerra Melo. Among the 39,509 participants at COP26, our CEPB delegates united with fellow climate activists to continue the fight for climate justice.

Our Partners

CEPB’s partners are companions who offer space for collaboration and facilitate
the crucial connection with communities impacted by the effects of climate change.  In Northeast
Brazil, climate change has resulted in intense periods of drought, a reduction in rainfall,
and the increase and intensification of the desertification process.

Because of this, national organizations and government agencies seek international
cooperation
and knowledge sharing in order to innovate climate adaptation processes and
execute policies to mitigate actions that deteriorate the environment,
especially to help the most vulnerable communities.

Cooperation, collaboration, and partnership are paramount in that success.

built on the best available data

When our organization first launched, our mission included bringing together global data to identify locations around the world that were most vulnerable to the destabilizing effects of climate impacts. We needed this information to target our work and ensure it centered the communities that are most impacted by climate change and the systemic injustices that create vulnerabilities to it. We are excited to share that the Water Peace and Security partnership has completed this enormous initial endeavor, creating a related data platform and conducting a rigorous analysis using its data

While opportunities for extending that research may remain, WPS’s work has provided the foundation for us to begin the next phase of our mission: understanding the intersectional root causes of the vulnerabilities they have identified and supporting local leaders in their efforts to create systemic change.
